Geospatial Discussion Newsletter June 14, 2009
Thank You
We would like to thank all of our members and visitors for helping
the site grow since its first opening in mid-March. We have aquired
many new additions on the site at the request of our members, and we
will continue to grow and bring you new things at your request. From
all of us at the Geospatial Discussion we would like to say thank
you!
The New Blogs Page
We have recently added a Blogs Page to the website, which many of our
members have said they love. It is a great resource of information. We
have a blog feed that combines all of the blogs submitted by our
members into one feed. The blog feed offers all recent posts from
blogs in GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing. If you have a blog or know of
a great geospatial blog you would like to submit, feel free to do so.
We will add the feed of that blog to our blog feed, and we will post a
link to the blog with a short description under one of the geospatial
categories(GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing). The Blogs page can be found by
clicking here: The Blogs Page
Source Codes on the Wiki Page
Source Codes can be a great help when you need to perform a function
that does not exist in GIS. We have placed several source codes on
the Wiki Page for our members and visitors to use. If you have a
great source code that you would like to add to the wiki page, please
do so. Once your account is setup, creating a page for your source
code is simple. In the search tab type GIS:Source Code:The name of
your soure code and click search. The results will be displayed on
the page, and click create this page. After your page is created,
just click save, and the page will be visible to all of the members
and visitors of the site. If you need any help setting up a wiki
account or creating a page, send an email to
admin@geospatialdiscussion.com. The Wiki page can
be found by
clicking here: The Wiki Page. To see an informative post on the blog page
Chat Room Times
Many of our members love the chat room. The only complaints that we
have received about the chat room is that our members visit the room
at different times making chatting sometimes difficult. We will soon
be experimenting with designated chat times. The chat room will still
be open 24/7, but the designated chat times gives our members the
oppurtunity to be in the room at the same time. The chat time will be
setup as a weekly event. For example, every Friday at 12 et. We are
open for suggested times. Just send an email to the administrator.
The File Exchange
The newest forum added to the Geospatial Discussion. It is a member
exculisve forum that enables geospatial related files to be shared
and exchanged. You can upload a map and get feedback from our members
on how you can improve your map. You can also upload GIS data to the
forum, but if the file extension of the file you are trying to upload
does not work, let us know and we will add it. Source codes can also
be shared in this forum as well. Enjoy the member-only area! To see
the blog post about the file exchange visit here: The File Exchange.
The Geospatial Discussion Blog
As most of you may have noticed, we have added a new section to the
website. It is our blog page, which is where we will update our
members and visitors on what has happened lately or new attractions
that will be added to the site. We will also let you know of any
maintenance that we are performing on the site or if there will be
any down time on the site. The blog page can be found here: The
Geospatial Discussion Blog.
