Geocaching.comAre you looking to break into a new, fun, and exciting hobby? Well, I think I found what you are looking for. Welcome to the exciting world of Geocaching. Breaking into this hobby is not very expensive; the only requirement is a GPS. So you are probably asking how it works. Well, it is quite simple; geocaching has been referred to as being similar to a scavenger hunt or being a professional hide and go-seeker. I have been on several geocaches, and I have enjoyed each one. The first one I did was a very memorable experience. I was reading about how it works, and found the nearest cache to my house. I then plugged in the coordinates into my trusty GPS, and began the hunt. Being excited and a newbie, I went at 12:00 a.m. (bad mistake), and in the middle of a thunderstorm (another bad mistake).I was looking for the cache and could not find it, but I then looked under this table and there it was! My friend and I were so excited along with my girlfriend who came running out of the car to see it. We opened up the box, and there were really neat trinkets and a log book to sign. Since then, I have been hooked! I cannot get enough; I visit the website each week to see where caches near my house are hidden. Don’t get down if you live in a small town because this website is the mother load for hidden caches. I have looked up small towns, and they always have a few caches waiting to be found. The website is very simple to figure out. Register for free or pay if you want extra benefits. Once registered, just type in the zip code for your area, and boom, you have all the caches near your house waiting to be hunted and found!
Enjoy old USGS Benchmarks? Well, you're in luck. They also have a section dedicated for the Benchmark hunters of the world. There are also various forms of geocaching. For example, ID tags can travel around and be hidden by the next person that finds them. The site is very helpful for anyone who is interested in geocaching!
Enjoy, and let me know how your first cache goes!
